On Tuesday, September 15th Green Bay Fire Station #7 was formally dedicated in honor and memory of long-time Green Bay Fire Chief Gerald Selissen.  Following the posting of the colors by the Green Bay Fire Department Color Guard, Fire Chief Jeff Roemer welcomed the approximately 100 family, friends, and co-workers in attendance to the ceremony. Long-time family friend Donald VanderKelen spoke of some of the accomplishments of Chief Selissen during his 35 year career in the fire service and 17 year tenure as fire chief while retiree Tim Madden rememberd Jerry for his ability to command respect while being a "fire fighter's fire chief". His regret was that Chief Selissen was not able to be with us to see the results of his work. Mayor Schmitt spoke not only of Chief Selissen's accomplishments but also of the contributions to the city made by the entire Selissen family. Current Fire Captain Mark Schroeder brought some humor to the solemn event as he remembered an incident many years ago when Chief Selissen chastised a rather crusty house captain for riding a young fire fighter for no apparent reason. On behalf of the Selissen family, Captain Jay Selissen, son of Chief Selissen, thanked those in attendance for paying their respects to his father, to Alderman Guy Zima for guiding the honor through the city government and to the city council for approving the re-naming of the station.

Station #7 was chosen to be named in Chief Selissen's honor because it was during his tenure and through his foresight that it was constructed.

IAFF Local 141 provided refreshments following the event.
