Brothers and Sisters,
July 5th marked the end to a long-term presidency for Green Bay Area Fire Fighters Local 141. After 9 faithful years of service, Chad Bronkhorst officially retired as President of Local 141. I would like to personally thank President Bronkhorst for his 9 years of service to our organization, and all that he accomplished and sacrificed to ensure that our local and it members were taken care of at all times. The position of President is not an easy one, and its time commitment and dedication takes up a large portion of your time. Chad, on behalf of the men and women of Local 141, Thank You for all that you did to ensure Local 141 was a leader in Labor.
On a personal note, I want to tell everyone how excited and motivated I am to lead this local. Per our Constitution and By-Laws, as Vice President I will be take the President’s Seat until the election is held in December. I started being active in this local not long after getting hired, and my dedication and desire to succeed assisted me in preparing for this position. For those of you who know me, I am a very approachable guy, so please do not hesitate to contact me at any time, and I will help you out in any way possible. I will include my contact information at the end of this letter.
Earlier this week, the Executive Board met to approve my appointment for Vice President, filling the seat that I had vacated. There are so many amazing leaders in our organization, and finding the right one for this position was not an easy task. After much thought and consideration, I went with my heart and selected Bernie Carwardine to serve as Vice President. A vote then took place, and passed successfully. Bernie comes to the table with much knowledge and history of the Local and has an exquisite mind when it comes to negotiations and problem solving. I look forward to working together with VP Carwardine and S/T Madson, and I am confident in their abilities to help take this Union to the next level! When you see Bernie, please join me by congratulating him on his new role! I will appoint someone to the Wage position that Bernie is vacating at the August Union Meeting.
Lastly, it was a busy month for each department. De Pere is working on putting together their initial offer for contract negotiations. They will also be creating a budget book to give to members of their council for the 2018 Budget. Austin Straubel Airport is working to create a Family Day, and hope to have it near the holidays. Bellevue is working on a staffing “Fill In” MOU, and are now fully staffed during the day time shifts after filling the 2 unfilled positions. As for Green Bay, neither party submitted a letter to open negotiations, so per our contract
there was a 1 year auto-renewal policy in place. We have been in constant communication with HR since the July 1st deadline passed, and after much discussion the Wage Team and the City have initially agreed to a 2-year contract renewal. This renewal would bring a 2% raise in July of 2018 and 2019, it would bring the Inspection MOU into the contract, and other than that the contract would stay AS IS!! It went to Personnel and Finance last Tuesday, and will be going to the Council on this Tuesday the 18th. As long as the Council agrees to it, we will then schedule a vote. If you have any questions about the renewal please contact a member of the Wage Committee.
Fraternally,
Ryan Hintz
